Welcome to our Kiwi Kapers Whanau,

Discover our story

In 1989 my husband (Wayne) and I (Gail) first started Kiwi Kapers in a small property on Atkinson Road, Titirangi. Our centre was very little with a licence of only 12 children ranging in ages from babies to 5-year-olds.

The Benefits of Mixed-Age Learning

My Belief in the value of children learning and growing together is why I bring all children aged 2 to 5 years old together creates a dynamic, family-like ecosystem that offers unique social, emotional, and cognitive advantages for both older and younger children. Rather than isolating children by chronological brackets, multi-age settings lean into organic development.

Supporting Every Child's Unique Learning Journey

At Kiwi Kapers, every child brings unique strengths, interests and individual needs. Grounded in Te Whāriki, New Zealand's early childhood curriculum, we work in partnership with whānau to create meaningful learning experiences that nurture each child's development and prepare them for their next learning journey.

Belong, Connect & Grow

We create a welcoming, nurturing environment where every child feels a sense of belonging. Working closely with whānau, our teachers support children to build positive relationships, communicate effectively, share, cooperate with others and develop empathy, emotional confidence and self-regulation.

Explore & Discover

Through purposeful play, exploration and problem-solving, children develop curiosity, memory, critical thinking and an understanding of cause and effect. Our experiences encourage children to ask questions, discover new ideas and build confidence in their own learning.

Create, Communicate & Express

We nurture children's listening, understanding, speaking and storytelling skills through rich conversations, shared experiences and creative play. Children also strengthen their physical abilities, from running and jumping to drawing and developing pencil control, while building early literacy, personal care and healthy habits.

Individual Plans & School Readiness

Every child has an Individual Development Plan (IDP), created with input from their whānau to support their current needs and learning priorities. Teachers regularly review and adapt these strategies, documenting progress through Learning Stories and supporting skills such as independence, emotional regulation, social cooperation and readiness for school routines.
